22 Jan 2018, Bidadi: The Principal District and Sessions Judge of Ramanagara issued summons to Lenin Karuppan, the complainant in the false case against His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda. He is accused of a serious felony of rape of a member of the Scheduled Caste. After investigation, The Hon’ble Court has ordered for the charge sheet to be filed against Karuppan for rape, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and intentionally intimidating a member of a Scheduled Caste.
On 12 March 2013, the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka ordered for an FIR to be filed in the case filed by Ms Pushpa against Lenin Karuppan for his attempt to rape, extort, and threaten to kill her. The police thereafter registered the complaint and FIR in Cr. N. 0077/2013 at Bidadi Police Station, on 11 March 2013. The High Court directed the police to investigate the matter in accordance with law.

22 Jan 2018: The Hon’ble Sessions Court of Ramanagara in Karnataka, India today ordered for the charge sheet to be filed after the investigation and has taken cognizance of the offences under Sections 376 (rape), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code and under Section 3(1)(r) of SC ST Act (intentionally insults or intimidates with intent to humiliate a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe in any place within public view). Due to the seriousness of the case, the law under the SC/ST Act requires the case to be completed in a time bound of 2 months.
In a series of heinous crimes in the conspiracy against His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda and His Disciples, Lenin Karuppan attempted to rape Ms Pushpa, a female Sanyasi (monk) of the Nithyananda Order. After making her unconscious, he undressed and sexually assaulted her, only stopping when seeing another disciple. He further went on to threaten her life and to expose the half nude pictures he had taken of her to the public, incriminating her Guru, Paramahamsa Nithyananda, instead of himself. Fearful of Lenin’s threats, Ms Pushpa kept quiet for some time. When she decided to pursue legal action, Lenin threatened her again and abused her by her caste name, demeaning her for being from a Scheduled Caste, a serious federal crime in India.
This case was dragged on for nearly eight years before Ms Pushpa saw any sign of justice. Though Ms Pushpa faced much mental, physical, and emotional abuse, ethnic discrimination, and trauma, she persevered. This action by the Hon’ble court against Karuppan marks a series of judgments in favour of Paramahamsa Nithyananda and His disciples by various Courts of India.
