30th May 2012, Senthil Kumar was at Madurai volunteering cleaning the ancient temple belonging to Madurai Aadheenam, which is undergoing a major renovation effort after His Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda took over as the 293rd pontiff of the 2500-year old Hindu religious establishment on 27 April 2012.
As they were leaving Kanjanoor, the assembled anti-social elements attempted to stop the car in which the two pontiffs were traveling and started abusing them verbally. They then dragged Senthil Kumar out of one of the escort cars and started physically assaulting him. A volunteer Muthukrishnan and others who rushed to his aid were also assaulted by the miscreants and have sustained injuries. Four persons have been arrested in connection with this incident. The incident has been partially videotaped by Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam’s official videographer, and the videos and photos have been handed over to the Tiruppananthal police.
