History of Lingayat Community
The Lingayat community are known for wearing a Linga, which as per the tradition, represents Bhagwan Shiva. They are a numerous group in India, especially in the state of Karnataka. It was formed in the 12th century by Basava, a philosopher and a social reformer.
Attempt of vested interest to cause violence
In March 2013, some vested interests had attempted to cause a tension between Lingayat community and Paramahamsa Nithyananda. There were financial motives behind it which got revealed by the sting operation against Rishi Kumar who was hired by Suvarna channel to speak against Paramahamsa Nithyananda on TV and cause tension between the communities.
In March 2013, Nithyananda Dhyanapeeta was approached by Mahalinga Swami
- Mahalinga Swami requested Paramahamsa Nithyananda to take over Bagalkot mutt.
- Paramahamsa Nithyananda had however offered to send his sannyasis to work with Mahalinga Swami to help in all possible ways, by aiding him with socio-spiritual services of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam to his mutt located in Bagalkot.
- On realizing that the mutt was a branch of Muruga Mutt,
- Dhyanapeeta clarified that it had no intention of taking charge of the mutt legally under its sister spiritual organization.
- Mahalinga Swami made a courtesy visit and traditional respect and welcome were accorded to him by Paramahamsa Nithyananda.
- Vested interests, such as new channel Suvarna TV, blew the whole incidence out of proportion. with an intention to cause tension in the society, especially the Lingayat community of Karnataka.
- The vested interested and the financial motive of the channel was brought to knowledge in the sting operation against the Kali Mutt Swami Rishi Kumar, who came to be picked by Suvarna 24×7, for an onslaught against Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his institution.
- Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his organization with highest regard and respect for the Lingayat community and by no stretch of imagination had any intentions to hurt the sentiments of the people of the community; but only wanted to be able to sincerely help towards the growth of this spiritual community. Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his family had followed the tradition of wearing Linga similar to the Lingayat community. - Nithyananda Dhyanapeeta sent a clarification to the Veerashaiva Mahasabha, requesting their understanding in the matter.

Nithyananda Dhyanapeeta would like to clarify on the recent issue of Swami Nithyananda being offered the mutt currently headed by Mahalinga Swami. We were approached by Mahalinga Swami who requested Paramahamsa Nithyananda to take the mutt under his fold. Paramahamsa Nithyananda clarified that he would not be taking the mutt under his fold but would be sending his sannyasi to work with him to extend the socio-spiritual services of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam to the mutt located in Bagalkot. However, it has been brought to our attention thereafter that the mutt is a shakha branch of Muruga Mutt. Nithyananda Dhyanapeeta would therefore like to clarify that it has no intention of taking charge of the mutt legally under its sister spiritual organization.

Nithyananda Dhyanapeeta would like to clarify to your esteemed self and the Veerashaiva Mahasabha once again about the recent made-up issue regarding Paramahamsa Nithyananda allegedly taking over the Mahalingeshwara Mutt. We wish to clarify that there was no talk of takeover of the Mutt by Paramahamsa Nithyananda. The courtesy visit of Mahalinga Swami and the due traditional respect and welcome accorded to him by Paramahamsa Nithyananda has been made into an issue and is being blown out of proportion by Suvarna TV.
This is being done for reasons well within their knowledge and inexplicable by us, and the people of Karnataka are aware as to why the channel is relentlessly propagating and blatantly spreading false, incorrect, inaccurate, scurrilous allegations against Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his institution.
The channel has been on a vengeful onslaught against Paramahamsa Nithyananda since months wherein the channel has raised some rumor or the other against the institution and the founder. A glimpse of the financial motive in this was brought to knowledge in the sting operation against the Kali Mutt Swami Rishi Kumar, who came to be picked by Suvarna 24×7, for onslaught against Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his institution.
Nithyananda Dhyanapeeta is contemplating legal action against Suvarna 24×7 for airing false and derogatory information about the institution on its channel. They are propagating false information with malicious vengeful intent to try and incite the Lingayat community against Paramahamsa Nithyananda.
We humbly request your understanding in this matter that Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his organization has the highest regard and respect for the Veerashaiva community and by no stretch of imagination has any intentions to hurt the sentiments of the people of the community; rather we would only like to be able to sincerely help towards the growth of this spiritual community.
CLARIFICATIONS MADE TO ALL THE PRESS REGARDING THE FALSE ALLEGATIONS BY SUVARNA TV ON THE RECENT ISSUE OF MAHALINGESHWARA MUTT
On March 7, 2013 the PR of Nithyananda Dhynapeetham sent a Press release to all the Press clarifying about the false allegations by the Suvarna TV on the Mahalingeshwara Mutt with regard to the Mahalingeshwara Mutt. Yet, the Press never reported or published this clarification anywhere in their media.
