The sacred ‘Pavazhakundru’, a small hillock which is part of the sacred Arunachala Hill in the temple town of Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India holds extreme spiritual importance in Hinduism. Arunachala, the sacred hill is known as the incubator for Avatars to land on Planet Earth. In 1978, the landing of such a divine being as His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda blessed this planet.
Pavazhakundru deity on which Paramahamsa Nithyananda had His experience of enlightenment at age 12, making this place a sacred living Deity for Hindus around the globe. For NithyanandaPeetam devotees, it is the very source for the Happening of The Avatar..
Through repeated brutal attacks on the Pavazhakundru Aadheenam; the anti- social and anti- hindu elements wish to annihilate the very source for the making of Incarnations, thereby attacking the core of Hinduism.
The Sacred Deity
The history
His Divine Holiness, Paramahamsa Nithyananda , was born and brought up in the beautiful temple city of Tiruvannamalai. He was spiritually brought up by great yogis and masters like Raghupati Yogi, Mataji Vibhudananda Devi (Kuppammal), Isakki Swamigal and Mahasadashiva himself as Arunagiri Yogishwara.

Mataji Vibhudananda Devi guided Paramahamsa Nithyananda in the enlightenment path of Vedanta. She was an elderly lady supporting and guiding Paramahamsa Nithyananda at a very young age when he was a teenager. She set Paramahamsa Nithyananda on his spiritual journey equipping him with not just the right knowledge and the right cognition about himself in life but by also donating her ashram land for him to start his mission work.
His Divine Holiness, Paramahamsa Nithyananda, had many mystical spiritual experiences while just sitting and meditating here. We have several nostalgic memories of the place. For us, the deity is a sweet place of worship where we connect, nostalgically with the divine and romance in the memory of Arunachala and the early spiritual life of our guru, Paramahamsa Nithyananda.
The spiritual legacy, we, at Nithyanandapeetam have with the place, dates easily more than 50 years. We have an unbroken connection with this place. Even after attaining enlightenment,Paramahamsa Nithyananda continues visiting and revering the place, the spot with deep gratitude, and so do all his devotees.
We have clear records of this three acre land which has been in legal possession of the Nithyananda Sangha since past 25 years. 
Enlightenment Experience
For Hindu community, the sacredness of Arunachala is equivalent to a deity. The whole mountain itself is garlanded as a deity out of love and sacred sentiments outpouring. The unbroken ancient tradition we have in Tiruvannamalai is, it is said and experienced that Sadashiva makes himself available to his devotees in three forms: As the deity in the Tiruvannamalai temple, as the Arunachala Hill, and as the enlightened master guru, currently Paramahamsa Nithyananda. The previous enlightenment master declares his successor before passing away, and Paramahamsa Nithyananda was declared so by the previous living enlightened master. The hill is extremely sacred to us.

Paramahamsa Nithyananda has successfully converted 1 billion people from various religions to practice authentic, Hindu lifestyle across the globe in a short time span of 5-6 years.
In March 2010, anti social elements and anti Hindu elements launched a highly, successful and malicious media attack, persecuting to malign his public image and decimate his organization for good. Their motive was clear – they wanted to completely eradicate us.
First Attack – March 2010
While we were still in shock of the sensational media attack, Veerabhadran – a political communist party leader along with his accomplice Karuppu Karna, leader of the Dravidian Kazhgum, an aethist organization thought this to be an oppurtune time to gain public support as well to destroy our aadheenam and drive us out of our property. Taking advantage of the absence of any of the sanyasis being present in the aadheenam at that time, they proceeded to breakdown our aadheenam property.

We were not going to let them instill fear in us. We went ahead and reconstructed the aadheenam in the very same place and posted a resident sanyasi there full time to maintain the area and perform daily rituals. We commenced offering services to the community – Anna Dana – offering free food , teaching yoga and meditation, counselling and healing. The news spread quickly and many started taking benefit of these free services.
In spite of the media persecution, Paramahamsa Nithyananda continued to reach out to the masses with his spiritual teachings and successfully expanded his devotee base, exponentially.
He lashed out at us again in 2017 on two occasions. By instilling fear in us to drive us out of our land so he can grab this very sacred land which is the source for Avatar happening on Planet and give a blow to breaking the very backbone of Hinduism.
Second Attack, Feb. 5, 2017
On 5 February 2017, Sri Nithya Bhaktimayananda Swami, a Sanyasi (Hindu monk) of His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda alongwith a devotee named Anand were offering their customary puja (sacred offerings) to the sacred deity at Pavazhakundru on the Arunachala Hill at Tiruvannamalai.
At around 5 pm, while they were offering worship, four unknown thugs who were drunk suddenly came and beckoned him to come towards them. Since they were drunk, Bhaktimayananda Swami did not pay any heed to them. This infuriated them and one of them stepped forward and nailed him to the ground and stamped him, brutally. The attackers tore their clothes, grossly violating the sanctity of the ochre robe as per Hindu religious sentiments. They then assaulted them with stones and other sharp objects. Sustaining severe head injuries and heavy loss of blood, the two of them, traumatized by this surprise and unexplained assault, were later hospitalized and treated for wounds throughout their body. Later Sri Nithya Bhaktimayananda Swami filed a police complaint reporting the attack.

Third Attack June 16, 2017
On the 16th June 2017, one of the brahmacharis (Hindu monk of the Nithyananda Order) Sri Nithya Parabrahmananda Maharaj, was performing the daily ritual offerings for the deity when anti-Hindu elements accosted him with no warning whatsoever and brutally beat him up. He had to be hospitalized immediately and spent one week to recover from the injuries. His medical records are attached below.

Guilty until proven Innocent
The District sub collector was present along with a group of police officials demolished the Adi-Nithyanandheenam where the worshiping puja items were stored. Two women sanyasinis were inside the aadheenam at that time. Sri Prana Swami tried to reason with the sub collector the reason why they were demolidhing the needed to be broken down but she was not ready to listen.
These anti-Hindu elements alleged that Nithyananda Peetam, the worldwide movement of His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda was encroaching into the area. They filed a complaint against us with the District Collector. Holding a biased opinion and unprepared to listen to us or see our ownership documents and taking law into his own hands; the District Collector ordered the demolition of our aadheenam property.
As per the law, the Collector is required to go through the Village Administration (VAO) or Taluk office but he totally boycotted this step and directly sent demolition orders through his sub -collector – which is illegal.

Fouth Attack, June, 2017
Even after the attack Sri Parabhramananda, returned back to continue to offer the sacred puja depicting the courage, dedication and devotion, he carried within him. Unfortunately, he was brutally beaten up by the same anti Hindu elements- Veerabhadran’s rowdies who were mocking him for returning back after being beaten the first time. The severity of the injuries inflicted required him to be admitted in hospital for over a week.

Anti-Hindus abuse Sacred Rock, worshiped by millions, June 17, 2017
After the aadheenam was demolished on the orders of the Collector, the women monks left the site. Whenever no one was present, the anti-social elements would go to the sacred deity and show their disrespect towards our sentiments by placing slippers, throwing down the Trishul, de-robing the rock – all sacrilege practices just to harass us. They destroyed the sacred items that were placed there for worship. Below are few pictures from the scene.
Other Hindu parties on hearing of these repetitive atrocities inflicted on us, voluntarily came forward to support us and stop the brutal attacks, aimed against Hinduism. To take action against the illegal brutal treatment they independently filed complaints in our favor before the Collector but these were not entertained and no action was taken by all of the Government Officials they approached.

Arrest of Monks, June 22,2017
While conducting their daily puja, with a group of devotees who had gathered there; police officials arrived on the scene and asked the women and men sanyaaasis to accompany them. They refused to give any reason and arrested them and held them from 2pm in the afternoon till 7:30 pm at night. As per the law, women cannot be restrained beyond 6 pm. This arrest was illegal and unjust. Inhumane treatment was meted towards monks who devote their entire life for service of humanity.

Sixth Attack, May 18,2018
Anti -Hindu elements attacked the devotee who came to offer puja to the sacred deity. They attacked him with stones and other sharp weapons and criminally intimidated him with abusive words hurling life threats; making every effort to deter him from continuing the ritual. The anti-Hindu elements also attacked the aged caretaker lady who lives there, inflicting a head injury on her.
Further, they tore and pulled down the saffron robe that was placed on the deity, flinging it down to the ground. They unearthed the sacred Trishul (trident) that was planted in front of it, damaging it beyond repair. Subjecting us to repeated physical attacks they were persistent in intimidating and instilling fear in us so we discontinue our religious practices. It is most shocking and hurting to see such criminal behavior in the sacred land of Arunachala where every stone is worshiped as a Shiva Linga and the entire Arunachala mountain is Lord Mahasadashiva Himself. Appropriate legal action has been initiated against the attackers.
Cultural Genocide
The anti social elements are repeatedly attacking the sanyasis and our sacred deity. Employing brutal tactics of intimidation and fear, all efforts are being taken to put a complete stop to the religious practices, and from allowing us to fulfill our religious responsibilities. Sinister and cunning tactics are being employed to encroach upon and drive out the rightful owners from their own properties. This poisonous vile has been spreading uncontrollably. Hindus are being terrorized and their wealth is usurped. Hindus need to unite together and demand and fight for their rights to overcome this monstrous enemy.
If this is the state in the temple town of Arunachala then we can visualize the extent of the growth of this malignant cancer in other towns and cities.
It is on this very sacred land of Vedic India, have walked countless powerful ochre-robed beings who carried pure hearts of compassion and gigantic wills to selflessly enrich humanity. They are the Sanyasis who called the world their home and walked door to door awakening people to the truth while healing and blessing them. The whole of India has been built by Sanyasis. Whether it is architecture, art, science, culture or language, Sanyasis have contributed the best things to Vedic tradition.
On such strong pillars is our Sanatana Hindu tradition standing.
