Contesting the illegal appointment of a second junior pontiff, after having been coronated by the living Pontiff of Madurai Aadheenam, Himself. Paramahamsa Nithyananda has turned towards the judiciary to provide him with a fair and just verdict.
His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda has filed a suit OS 530 of 2016 against the appointment of another Junior pontiff before Madurai sub court in violation of the Mutt rules.
As per the rules of Madurai Mutt, a junior pontiff can be appointed only once during the tenure of the mutt head.

“Particulars of important customs and usages.
Pertaining to the institution example agamas followed etc..
In this mutt temple according to the Kamika Agama and according to the Soma sambupatthi the daily and periodical pujas are being conducted.
The three initiations namely the traditional sect initiation, special initiation and Nirvana initiation are given to the mature individuals among the Saiva Vellala community along with the consecration as Acharya. At no time other than the mentioned group the traditional practice to give Acharya consecration has been done. The initiation of the touch of Saiva Vellala will be given. At a time, only one person can be initiated as Acharya and no further person can be initiated.”

” Particulars of the scheme of administration
If any, governing the institution such as by whom the scheme was settled and on what date. The schedule of establishment approved by Commissioner in his R is 5822.60 on 29.11.60. The administration of the mutt is under the control of the mutt head of the Thirugnanasambandar Adheenam
The Pandya procedure of appointment:
the disciple of the Thirugnanasambandar adheenam mutt belonging to the Saiva Vellalar family or Karkattha Vellalar family, and who have gained mental maturity are concecrated with Nirvana Dheeksha according to the tradition and they have the acharya abhishekam done according the to the rules of the agama and they are called by the name Pandara Sannadhi. Right from the time of Thirugnanasambandar it is in practise that when the elder Pandara Sannadhi attains siddhi the junior Pandara Sannadhi assumes the responsibility of all the administration of the mutt.”
The 292nd Pontiff Srila Sri Arunagirinatha Jnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal had appointed Paramahamsa Nithyananda as 293rd pontiff of Madurai Aadheenam on April 27, 2012.
To the amazement and ridicule of all, within a few months after coronating Paramahamsa Nithyananda as Junior Pontiff himself; 292nd Pontiff Srila Sri Arunagirinatha Jnanasambanda Desika Paramacharaya Swamigal, disregarded his action and went ahead and filed a case at Madurai Branch of the Madras High Court contesting the appointment of Paramahamsa Nithyananda as Junior Pontiff..
When the Pontiff was questioned on the validity of his actions, his response was that he was knowledgable of the Agamic rules and well versed in Shaivism.
Meanwhile, the pontiff has gone ahead and appointed a new junior pontiff this year. This is illegal as per Madurai Mutt rules. Hence, this action is condoned by Paramahamsa Nithyananda and His followers. Immediate cancellation of the new junior pontiff is demanded and re-instating of Paramahamsa Nithyananda as the 293 Junior Pontiff of Madurai Mutt, honorably.
This case is pending before the court.
