Sri Nithya Shuddhananda Swami, a Hindu monk of His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda, head of the Nithyananda Aadheenam in Erode on the banks of the sacred river Cauvery in South India was living there under a thatched roof and offering services like energy healing and spiritual counselling to the people in the surrounding areas. On 25 Feb 2014, he was attacked, abused and harassed by anti-Hindu and rowdy elements.
One of the rowdy elements demanded 50 lac Indian rupees from the monk, threatening that if he does not pay fifty lac rupees, he would spread false news about Paramahamsa Nithyananda and the monk. Further, a leading local television channel Samaya TV, joined hands and continuously aired false, baseless and defamatory stories accusing Paramahamsa Nithyananda of the death of a man who had died a natural death months ago. The monk filed a police complaint detailing these serious crimes of extortion, criminal conspiracy, blackmail and criminal intimidation by rowdy elements and vested interest media.
